October 20/08

Greetings! Well the new album's been released and we've distributed it far and wide. Most people will be just receiving it now but we've had a lot of really great comments on it so far for which we are thrilled!

Just one or two tiny yet important corrections to the sleeve. You may have noticed that one of the spines of the CD says the album title and nothing else...that was a printing error. We're getting new tray inserts made, so if you want a corrected one, feel free to drop me a line.

Also, one or two issues with the credits. Somehow our beloved drummer Matt Hildebrand's name was left off Ace of Cups II. That's him, bashing away so majestically. Also, Kevin plays piano on Dirge, and Ryan McVeigh plays acoustic guitar on Ace of Cups II.

We're planning t-shirts and a CD release show date at the moment. If you're new to the site and wish to hear sound clips, go to the LISTEN area to hear them. If you're in Winnipeg, the CD is available at Music Trader in Osborne Village so far. You can also email us and we'll set you up. Or click on BUY above for more options.

We'll keep you posted with reviews and other news as they start to happen. Oh, as of this writing, we've also climbed to #14 on the UMFM charts!

August 16/08

Hello again, we're in the very final stages now so I wanted to update everyone on what's been happening and what's about to happen...namely, the new album.

As has been mentioned, the new album will be called "Rewilding" and we're still on target to have it ready by the end of September. The finishing touches recording-wise are going on this coming Monday and Tuesday (real harpsichord, a small bit of guitar, and guest banjo and oboe parts). Mixing will happen in the first week of September, and mastering will be done September 12th. Album artwork is nearly done and will go in next week or so.

Not sure what else to tell you (have I told too much by indicating there's banjo and oboe?). The next update will be about the album's release. Thanks, and stay tuned!

April 11/08

Wow! We're back!

And with the new web look I've been promising for such a long time, too. Sometimes these things just fall into place. And I must thank Rob Rodgers (also known as Mr. Leslie Oldham, ha ha ha) for his interest in helping us out. Rob is also going to design the album's sleeve and artwork. Thanks Rob!

As to information on the album itself, I'm happy to announce that everything's been falling into place nicely. We had a minor delay over Christmas in recording Matt's vocal parts - we completed a day's recording with no trouble, but when the time came to finish the job, Matt had developed a bad cold and could not sing. It turned out for the best though, as it bought us some much-needed arrangement time.

All of the songs are well on the way - we have only a few more instrumental concerns, then it's just a few more vocals, and it will be an album. Very exciting. Our violinist Richard is arriving from Edmonton at the end of April and it will be his turn to record. The weekend following, we will be recording piano parts at the Manitoba Conservatory of Music.

Sometime in June we will be adding string trio parts to two tracks, then when Matt returns in the summer we'll finish his vocal parts, at which point we can add some voice harmonies.

On one track we are working with a singer from Dublin, Ireland named Alison O'Donnell. Alison was in a 1970s band called Mellow Candle who released only one album, an absolute gem called Swaddling Songs. The album is considered one of the best folk-rock albums ever made, and - interestingly - the original vinyl for Swaddling Songs has been known to fetch well over $1000 on Ebay. Anyway, one of our songs is an homage to Mellow Candle and on that track Matt will duet with Alison.

Helping us on drums are Jeremy Epp, formerly of Guitaro, and - due to a bit of good fortune - our old drummer Matt Hildebrand was able to record a few tracks with us over the Christmas holidays. Big thanks to Jer and Matt.

Trusty Ryan McVeigh of course is at the recording helm again.

I won't divulge too much more, except to say that we anticipate a late summer or early fall release for the followup album to "The Gift of Wolves."

More soon!

November 3/07

Well, it appears this site hasn't been updated in ages - lest anyone think that the band sank without a trace after our debut, let me give you the lowdown on what's happened over the past year!

We performed a show at the Academy Bar and Eatery in the summer, our last show with drummer Matt Hildebrand who has since moved to Minneapolis to continue school. We thank him for all the great times and for his amazing contributions to our debut album.

Summer was a busy time - not a terribly happy time either for me personally with the passing of my mother in July. However, it was also a time of creativity and writing new material. In late summer and early fall I was able to round up the rhythm section in my basement for some rehearsals of the new songs, and we were able to record the results over the past two Saturdays with Ryan McVeigh, once again at Mid Ocean Studios. Some rough demos were converted to rather horrible sounding MP3s and sent to Matt, and he has dutifully returned with some terrific lyrics and a few melodies - he returns to Winnipeg at Christmas at which time he'll reserve some studio time.

And come January, after we've gotten Leslie in to do her vocal parts and all the guests have been recorded, we should be ready to send it off to be pressed.

That is the recent past and hopeful recent future in a nutshell. For the record, I'm feeling great and energetic about the new material! Looking forward to play it live as well.

September 25/06

Summer has been and gone, we had a great live show in July, and now we're hard at work on new material and planning our CD release show (finally!). I am pleased that I can finally announce the details about it.

The show will take place at the King's Head Pub at 120 King Street in Winnipeg, on Friday, December 29th, 2006. Exact time and further final details are yet to be finalized.

We begin new recordings for our followup CD - today! Rather, at 6:30 tonight. Pretty excited about the new songs too.

Finally - the new look for this page will happen sometime in the next couple of weeks.

That's all for now.
